I paint to celebrate people, moments and spaces and to tell a story. I may paint on location, or sketch and paint from that experience later, using acrylic or watercolour.

Blue evokes emotions, not places or faces. Making a blue dominant painting is a challenge for me as a representational artist. So my entries in this show feature blue but came out of a narrative or expressive intent.

Takeout, Coffee, February was done earlier this year, during lockdown; a cold lonely coffee break too typical of our isolation.

Getting out in the open air, however, does lift the spirit. I include Finally. Winter which celebrates being out in fresh, bright snow along with other kindred souls: a distant woman walking her dog and a man hugging one of the majestic old trees.

But as more enormous blue glass towers block the sky from the old two-story city,“Open air” is a vanishing commodity. I think: there goes the neighbourhood!
