Changing Earth: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter
Summer and Winter were first painted and shown in 2019, but I always knew the other two seasons had to join them. They have necessarily been altered a little to accommodate their new neighbours.
Indeed, my concern and knowledge regarding climate change had to grow before being able to approach Spring and Autumn, as the effects on these transitional seasons are subtler and more dynamic. I represent them here as the shrinking seasons, encroached upon especially by the too wet and too hot summer. Summer is seen from the underwater perspective of the reversed and ensnared river goddess, meant as a comment on our failure to recognize and align with the sacred wisdom inherent in Nature. The Dark night of Winter is a plea for rest and recovery.
