The self portrait is a sort of rite of passage for an artist, when her gaze turns in on herself. What she reveals, what she conceals, what media she chooses for her message are the usual choices when making art, but most significant and most conscious in a self portrait.
On this site is a selection of the self portraits presented by Heliconian Club artists -- just the portraits that are for sale. The catalogue of the whole show is online here. The show could not be hung in Heliconian Hall as scheduled, due to Covid-19 restrictions and ran online only from April 29 to May 26, 2021.
