A group exhibit to celebrate summer. Convenors: Florence Guttman and Dougal Haggart
The show ran from July 6 to September 6, 2023 at ♿ Heliconian Hall, 35 Hazelton Ave., Toronto.
For Summerlude ’23, our final exhibition of the 2022-23 season, artists were invited to express the sounds, scenes and songs that enhance their art and inhabit their memories, with a focus on – of course – summer.
Summer is… bright hot sunshine, flowers in the garden, waves on the shore, reading a good book, a magical concert, cackling geese in a barnyard, a stroll in the park, the sounds of the city, the quiet of the country…
and
Summer is also the howl of a thunderstorm, backbreaking work to plant and harvest, the chaos of weekend traffic to “get away”...
Perhaps those sounds and sights, or a scene from a book affected how an artist sketched, painted, or made a photograph. Some of the art reflects the mood of a song or the world the artist saw as she read a story.
